Exploring Baltimore On A Budget

31st December 2024 by shoestringjane@outlook.com Leave a Comment

This is a collaborative post.

Baltimore is a wonderful place to visit – the fact that its nickname is Charm City should tell you a lot about why it’s an ideal place to pick, but on top of its general charm, it’s full of wonderful historic neighbourhoods, lots of culture, and some very delicious (and perhaps unusual) food.

The problem isn’t with choosing Baltimore as a destination, of course – that’s the easy part – the problem is that it can be a pricey place to spend time on. However, there are some great ways to explore Baltimore on a budget, so keep reading to find out more.

Stay In The Right Place

One of the things that can really eat up your budget when you’re travelling and especially when you’re exploring somewhere like Baltimore is the accommodation – and you can’t ignore it because you’ve got to have somewhere to stay. The good news is that although it might seem like you’ve got to spend a lot of money on where you’re staying at first, the truth is that you could do some research and save a big chunk.

Staying in something like extended stay hotels in Baltimore MD, for example, means you’ll pay really affordable rates but for that money you’ll get spacious rooms, a kitchen, laundry facilities and so on (and having those things to hand to use whenever you want is another way to save money as you don’t have to eat out all the time and you can save money on laundry bills too).

Go To Free Attractions

Another reason to choose Baltimore is that it’s jam-packed full of free (or almost free) things to do, so once you’re actually there, you don’t have to spend very much at all if you don’t want to. You could start with the Inner Habour, which is a stunning spot that’s perfect for a nice walk, people watching, and enjoying the views. Plus you can take a look at some historic ships like the USS Constellation (and explore inside for a small cost).

On top of that, there’s Federal Hill Park which gives you one of the very best views of the city, and you can take a picnic there to enjoy it even more. Like history? Then you’ll love Fort McHenry where the US national anthem was written – that’s another excellent free place to visit that will surround you with important historical information.

Get Cheap Food

If the idea of cheap food worries you because you think it’s going to be bad or you’ll have to miss out on the best of what Baltimore has to offer, there’s no need to be concerned – you can eat pretty cheaply in Charm City without having to sacrifice flavour or the opportunity to try out the local cuisine.

That’s because there are loads of street food markets and stands dotted around the city, and they’ll sell the local delicacies you’re looking for, like crab cakes or pizza slices, for example. In fact, one of the best places to visit in general is Lexington Market, which is filled with affordable things to eat – just remember to have cash with you because not all the vendors will accept cards or digital money.
