The garden is one of the most fun and exciting parts of our home. During the spring and summer the garden comes to life and it can be truly magical to see what colours and textures make their home in our plant beds. If you fancy making some upgrades to the garden this summer for a stunning set of colours and blooms throughout the season, we have some handy tips for you.
Trim your trees
The first way to upgrade your garden and make it look tidier and more inviting this year is to hire a tree surgeon to trim your trees. Our trees can grow pretty rapidly over the summer months and as a result it can end up looking pretty overgrown and wild. To make your garden look and feel more pristine this summer you can trim your trees and shape them.
Hang some baskets
Hanging baskets can be an awesome way to make your home look a little brighter and more fun, and this summer you can have some stunning blooms outside the front door. Some of the best plants to have in a hanging basket are:
- Pansies
- Violas
- Marigolds
- Sweet peas
- Poppies
- Lobelia
- Busy Lizzie
- Cosmos
- Strawberry
- Nasturtium
- Fuschia
All of these flowers can look stunning and by having a combination of 3-4 different flowers in your hanging basket it can look great.
Plant fast growing bulbs
Believe it or not, you still have the time to grow a bulb or two in your garden before the summer starts. If you are looking for some stunning colours to start flowering in your garden this summer, you can consider planting bulbs such as anemone and gladioli. These will both grow fairly quickly and they will begin to spread lots of stunning colours throughout your garden for the summer.
Paint the furniture
If you have a regular set of wooden chairs and a wooden table and bench in your garden, one way to have some fun this year would be to paint them a bright colour. For example a colour such as purple or yellow can instantly make your garden look renewed and it will make your space feel much more fun than it was before. There are so many different garden paints to choose from so take a look and be adventurous with your choices.
Use your patio
There is no point in having a huge patio in your garden if you never utilise the space. Make sure that you always make the most of your patio space with a seating area, a herb garden and a barbecue grill for those hot sunny days. There are some really great things you can do with your patio to make the most of it and you should be able to find some awesome inspiration online.
Upgrade your security
It is also important to make sure that the home is secure during the spring and summer, which is why you can get lots of tools to secure your garden and home. First of all, you can add a motion sensing light to the garden along with CCTV, and you can replace any broken fence panels to be safe. Just like you would use this identity verification service to deter scammers for your online needs, in the home you want to ensure that only your family and trusted friends can ever access the space.
Add blankets and cushions
One of the things we often forget to bring into our garden is soft furnishings, and this is most likely because we think that they will be ruined if it starts to rain. However, did you know you can buy waterproof blankets and cushions for the garden? This is something which can be an amazing idea for your space and it means that when you have people over in the summer time you can chill out in the garden and enjoy the sunshine without getting too cold or feeling uncomfortable on the wooden benches.
Add lights
As well as during the day time, you will want your garden to look and feel a little bit magical at night. When it comes to lighting up your garden there are several ways you can do this. First of all you could hang some solar powered fairy lights on your pergola or garage, and secondly you can use solar lights in the ground to softly light up the flowerbeds. Anything will add an air of magic to the space and it will look and feel amazing.
Have a ping pong table
Who said that a garden can’t also be a playground? One of the things you can think about doing in your garden this year is adding some fun elements for yourself and for the kids. If you like spending your weekend days in the garden then it can be a great idea for you to install a small goal for your children to play football and mess around. You can also think about having an outdoor ping pong table to enjoy with your friends and family. It will be a great way to get some exercise and have fun with some of that competitive spirit!
Raise the beds
If you fancy making your garden look a little more fancy and elegant this year, one method to achieve this would be to raise your play beds and make them into special features of their own. You can do this by buying some wooden borders for plant beds and then filling compost up above the level of your lawn. Once you are done you can add some impressive colours such as salvia hot lips and aquilegia and this will bring some beautiful blooms to the garden.
Sprinkle some seeds
If you don’t have the time to really dig into your garden this summer (see what we did there?), you can actually still have some beautiful blooms and textures without all of the fuss. The easiest way to make some stunning blooms fall in your garden all summer is to buy yourself a cottage seed mix and sprinkle them all over the garden. In order to sprinkle some cottage seeds in your garden you can simply rake your soil to loosen it, sprinkle the seeds over, and then cover with a thin layer of compost. Water well and keep moist and this will bring you flowers such as cornflowers and poppies all summer long. The beauty of this kind of garden display is that the more wild it looks, the better, so you won’t need to worry about maintaining the garden every day in summer!
