5 Ways To Start A Business On A Shoestring Budget

This  is a collaborative post.

If you’ve ever dreamed of starting a company but haven’t had the cash to achieve it, you may very well have put your aspirations on hold. However, it is possible to launch a successful company on a minimal budget. Here are some strategies to achieve exactly that and make your business-owning ambitions a reality.

 Sell What You Know

The most straightforward approach to selling anything is to sell what you’ve already tried and tested yourself. That way, you’ll be able to demonstrate your enthusiasm for the subject and describe its advantages in detail. When you combine these two assets, you’ll see a significant increase in sales.

It is better to sell something that already exists rather than attempt to build something new if you don’t have much or any start-up cash. Inventing a new product or service can wait until you’ve generated a profit on your first venture. To begin, though, stay with tried-and-true products that you can resell by adding your own personal touch.

Use The Resources To Hand

You could go out and get a new laptop or tablet. You could purchase separate phone lines for your company. You could rent an office space. You could also save a lot of money by working with what you already have.

Be prepared to explain that you are doing so – especially if you are working from home and the dogs start barking, or if you need to find a location with free wifi because your internet is down – but remember that this is saving you enough money to get started. The trick is to get going. In that way, you can start making the money you need to progress.

Contacts

When you start a small firm with few resources, the adage ‘it’s not what you know, but who you know’ will take on new meaning. In order to grow your company, it’s important to maintain contact with individuals you’ve worked with in the past or make new acquaintances. There is a chance that they may be able to assist financially or provide advice. In fact, they may be able to put you in contact with the people who can propel your business to new heights.

Organise Your Payments

If you have no money in your bank account and you’re beginning a company, you’ll need to fill your account quickly – otherwise, you won’t be able to buy stock, pay for advertising, or even pay yourself and any employees you may have. If you operate a project or service-based firm, charging a deposit or even the whole purchase price in advance is the best way to go. If you sell things, you may need to operate on a dropshipping basis, which means that you accept payment for something and then use that money to buy it. You get to keep the difference.

 Stay Away From Credit

It is true that credit can benefit you, such as with self employed mortgages, but this isn’t always the case, and in many instances, it can put your start-up business in substantial debt that it is unable to pay off. If you must borrow, be sure the conditions are fair and that you have a plan in place to pay the loan off in a reasonable length of time before you do so.
