Signs That It Is Time To Change Your Dog’s Food

This is a collaborative post.

Choosing the right food for your dog can be difficult and overwhelming at times, as choosing the right food it is vital for their health and wellbeing. But, once you have found a type of food that works for them, it is also important for you to change up your dog’s food every now and again. There are many signs and indications that can determine when it is time for you to switch up your dog’s food. Here are some of the signs that you should look out for in your dog.

Life Stage Changes

As your dog changes and grows, it is important for you to switch up their food. As your dog grows, their dietary and nutritional needs change along with them. Most dog food brands offer products specifically designed for your dog’s age. First there is puppy food, which is designed to be fed to dogs up to one year of age. Then there is adult food, which can be fed to dogs between the ages of one to seven, and then finally there is mature food. This type of food is suitable for dogs aged seven or eight and above. Older dogs require different nutrition to puppies; therefore, it is important for you to give your dog food appropriate for their age.

Loss Of Enthusiasm For Food

If a dog loses their appetite or if they are not interested in the food that you usually give them, this is usually a sign that something is not right. Many dogs go through stages where they do not find certain food appealing anymore or they are no longer begging for food. Just like humans, dogs can get bored of eating the same food all the time and like to try new types of food.

Switching up their food can definitely help to bring back their appetite and help them to get back to eating regularly. You could even try giving your dog different types of food, such as dry, wet, or even raw dog food. If you are unsure or new to raw dog food, you should try Bella & Duke.

Lack Of Energy

Dogs need the right type of food to fuel their energy levels and to help them keep active all day long. If you notice your dog has less energy than it used to, or they now easily get tired and lethargic, this may be a sign that they are lacking the nutrition’s that they need. By simply changing your dogs’ diet it can give them the nutrients that they need, therefore boosting their energy.

Dull And Itchy Coat

Another sign that it may be time to change up your dog’s food is by the condition of their coat. Certain nutrients are vital for keeping a dog’s coat strong, healthy, and shiny. Therefore, if your dog is lacking the nutrients that it needs their coat will begin to lose its shine, look dull and become flaky. In extreme cases, their coat and skin can even become itchy. Swapping your dog’s food can really help your dog’s coat to maintain its health and shininess.

Weight Changes

If you notice that your dog is either putting on weight or losing weight quickly, it may be linked to the food that you are giving them. If you notice that your dog has gained a lot of weight it may be sign that you are over feeding them. Why not try changing to a dog food that is designed to be filling while not providing a high level of calories for your dog. On the other hand, if you notice that your dog is quickly losing weight, it may be time for you to switch to food with a higher level of calories in order to match their dietary needs and their activity levels.

Dietary Upsets

Dogs can often suffer from indigestion or stomach problems, depending on the type of food they are eating. Food should be easy for a dog to digest and should not cause them any problems. If you begin to notice that your dog is having stomach issues, they are going to the toilet more regularly or if their stool has changed in any way, it is probably an indication to change the type of food you are giving them. Switching up their food will hopefully resolve these issues for them, and they should be back to themselves in no time.

Hopefully from these few signs you will be able to notice if there are any changes in your dog or if it is time for you to switch up your dog’s food. Changing to a different type of dog food can make a world of difference for your dog and their diet.
