Parenting is no easy feat. It’s challenging, exhausting, and at times a little bit scary.
As new parents, it can feel like you’re constantly learning on the job and making mistakes along the way.
Parenting is also different for everyone—what works for one parent might not work for another. There are so many things to think about when bringing a new life into this world.

We all make mistakes, but that doesn’t have to be the end of the world. Mistakes are great learning opportunities and these experiences can help us become better people in the long run.
Try not to Dwell on the Past
The past is just that — in the past!
When it comes to parenting, it can be easy to dwell on the past. Maybe you regret how you parented your first child. Maybe you feel like you didn’t get things right and you want to do things differently this time around.
Constantly dwelling on the past can lead to you feeling defeated and stuck. You might end up feeling like you can’t move forward because you’re too busy looking backwards.
Focus on what you can control and improve.
Don’t Rush Decisions
When you are pregnant, you might feel like you have to make all of your decisions as soon as possible.
It’s important to remember that there is no rush.
You don’t have to make all of these decisions right away. You don’t have to know exactly how you want to parent a child who isn’t even here YET.
And you don’t have to make decisions based on the pressure you’re feeling from those around you. There are so many things that can change once you have your child in the world. You don’t have all the information you need to make all of these decisions right away.
Take your time and make the right decisions for yourself and your family.
Learn to Say No
This is also an important lesson for any new parent. You are going to be asked to do so many things and you are going to feel pressured to do them all. There will be social events, baby showers, and parties where you’re the centre of attention.
There will also be family events where your child is the centre of attention. There will be tons of friendly offers from family and friends to help you out and give you advice. There will be people who want to do things for your baby and for you.
But you have to learn how to say no. You have to learn to be assertive and confident in your decisions. You have to learn to put your child and your family first.
Learn to set boundaries and learn to say no to the things that are stressing you out or that aren’t good for you or your family in the long run.
Hold Off on the Baby Gear
Hoarding items like baby carriers, strollers, and bouncers can be a great thing. You don’t want to skimp on safety when it comes to your child, but you don’t have to buy everything all at once either.
You don’t want to go overboard and spend a bunch of money on items you don’t need. You want to make sure you have enough money saved for your baby’s future.
You want to make sure you have enough to last you through the pregnancy, the birth, and the first few months after your child is born.
Get Ready To Be Mentally and Physically Exhausted
Parenting is a huge change and you need to be prepared for it.
You need to be prepared for how much time and energy it’s going to take out of your day. Be aware of how much sleep you’re going to lose and how little time you’re going to have for yourself.
At times you will feel like you have no energy or time for yourself. Losing that alone time that you used to have will become part of your reality.
After all, caring for your 1 year old baby may feel like an impossible mission.
Bottom line
Parenting for the first time is nerve-wracking and exciting. It can also be a little bit scary and you need to be prepared for these things. It’s okay to make mistakes and it’s okay to feel like you’re constantly learning on the job.
These things are all part of the process of being a new parent. They are all part of the learning curve that comes with bringing a new life into the world.
