How To Make Your Home More Eco Friendly (On A Budget)

6th August 2021 by shoestringjane@outlook.com Leave a Comment

How to Make your Home more Eco Friendly on a Budget is a collaborative post.

With scientists predicting that we are reaching the point of no return when it comes to climate change, it’s clear that we each have an individual responsibility to take better care of the planet. Thankfully, we can begin to make these changes in the comfort of our homes. You can take steps to make your home more eco friendly. In fact, despite popular misconceptions, turning your home into an eco-friendly paradise is neither expensive nor difficult.

Here are some tips to get you started!

How to make your home more eco friendly on a budget

Green cleaning

The vast majority of cleaning products sold in stores contain harsh chemicals, which could lead to pollution if disposed of incorrectly. As a result, you should ensure that you make the switch to eco-friendly cleaning products. Thankfully, this does not need to be expensive; you can even make your own cleaning supplies from ingredients you already have lying around your home.

Composting

Another way in which you can make your home more eco-friendly is by reducing the amount of waste you produce. For example, instead of throwing away food waste with the rest of your rubbish, you could try your hand at home composting. This is a great way to take better care of the planet and could also help your garden flourish by providing your plants with extra nutrients.

Recycling

Teach your children the importance of recycling, and ensure they know exactly which products can and cannot go into the recycling bin. Teaching them these lessons sooner rather than later reduces the chances of your waste getting contaminated. It also means they develop excellent habits early on.

Green energy

Switching to a green energy provider or installing solar panels in your home is another great way to make your home more eco-friendly. While solar panel installation may seem expensive, when you use the right battery for solar panels, you can reduce your energy bill by up to 50%.

Reduce your energy consumption

Switching to a renewable energy source is only half of the battle; you should also ensure that you reduce your home’s energy consumption. For example, you could switch to eco-friendly light bulbs or ensure that you turn off the light whenever you are not in the room.

While these habits may seem rather inconsequential, they will actually make a big difference over time – to both the environment and your bills! You can pay more attention to your energy consumption by installing a smart monitor in your home.

Buy second hand

When it comes to home renovations, operate with the environment in mind by buying second-hand furniture instead of  brand new products. Not only is this a great way to save money, but it also gives you the chance to develop new skills through upcycling.

Second hand upcycled furniture can be a fantastic feature and make your home more eco friendly on a budget.

Green laundry

Did you know that you can help save the environment by changing the way in which you do your laundry? For example, air-drying your clothes saves more energy and will also help you cut down on your bills. Furthermore, studies suggest that allowing your clothes to dry naturally means they will have a longer life as they are less likely to shrink.

Washing your clothes at a colder temperature is another great way to take better care of the planet, as your laundry will use less energy.

Hopefully, making some small changes will allow you to make your home more eco friendly without breaking the bank.
