Welcome to the latest post in my side hustle series, looking at tried and tested methods to earn extra income. There are so many ways to make extra cash when you need to. In this post I look at how to make money with the Job Spotter app.
Make Money with the Job Spotter App
What is Job Spotter?
Job Spotter is an app designed by Indeed.com, an online job search site. You earn points for sending in job adverts you spot in the windows of business premises. When you have accumulated a few, you can turn those points into Amazon vouchers. These are handy for Christmas!
However, I should say that you are not going to earn a fortune with Job Spotter. It is a useful app, though, if you get out and about a lot in the high street or shopping centres during the course of your day.
How does it work?

When you are in town, especially if you are visiting somewhere new, keep your eyes peeled for job adverts on the windows of shops, pubs, restaurants and offices.
You need to submit two photos. Firstly, a clear close up of the advertisement. Secondly, one of the store front showing the business name.
You need to make sure both are clear, in focus and that there are no people in the photographs. This can be a challenge if the area is busy!
I had a lady rush out of one place to ask what I was doing, but seemed fine when I told her. After all, it meant her job advert would get a lot more exposure and would cost her nothing.
How do you get paid?
You get paid in points, which go towards Amazon gift vouchers. You earn more points if you find ‘Help Wanted’ type signs at a small business than you do if it’s a large business chain signposting people to its website.
If the small business accepts applications in person as well as giving a job title you earn optimum points. You get more if there is a job title and a mobile number as well.
However, if somebody else has already submitted the job ad, it will be classed as a duplicate and you will earn fewer points. Chain stores with their own websites generally earn the least points.
You can cash out your points whenever you like. I am saving mine up for Christmas though.
How much can you earn?

One point is worth one cent. The most points I have managed was for a small cafe whilst we were on holiday in Pembrokeshire – 221! This is extremely good, as the app guidelines say the maximum points you can earn is 150. I’m not sure how I managed it, but happy to go with it 🙂
Usually it seems to be around the 50 points mark, although I did only get 5 on one pub, which had clearly been sent in multiple times and was part of a chain.
You are never going to earn a huge amount, but could make £20-30 a month in vouchers if you are focused.
Pros and cons
The pros
It takes about 30 seconds to photograph and submit your job ads via the Jobspotter app. Using the app is really easy, and there is a very clear user guide.
You can withdraw your earnings as soon as your submissions are approved and don’t have to wait for a minimum amount to get a payout.
Above all, it is fun and easy to make money with the Job Spotter app! I think it is like a grown up treasure trail.
The cons

A lot of people are using the Job Spotter app now, and you may find that your ads have already been submitted a lot of times. You need to keep your eyes peeled when you are anywhere near small shops so that you don’t miss any opportunities.
You also have to ensure the photos you take are of good quality. You lose points for shaky or out of focus photos and they are likely to be rejected if there are people visible.
I think this would be great for students, but anyone with a smart phone can make money with the Job Spotter app. Has anyone else used it? I would be really interested to hear how much you have made.
