If you know that you just can’t sleep at night or if you feel as though you are unsettled and you can’t relax then you will know what a frustrating experience this can be. Luckily there are things that you can do to try and remedy the situation. Take a look below to try and find out more.
Power All Your Devices Down
Sure, you may have an alarm clock next to your bed but you may also have a cell phone and even a tablet as well. The problem is that if all of these devices are turned on then this could actually be disturbing your sleep. You may find that you aren’t able to stop picking up your phone and you may also find that the constant light stops you from getting into deep REM sleep. If you want to stop this from happening then turn off all of your TVs, computers, blue light sources and even your phone before you go to bed. If you have a display that you aren’t able to shut off, then consider covering it up as this will help you to really get the situation sorted out.
Naps
You’ll rest way better at night if you try and avoid napping during the day. If you do feel the need to nap or if you know that you can’t get through the day without having a good old kip then make sure that you keep it to 20 minutes or less. You may also want to try and keep yourself awake by going on a short walk or even by having a nice glass of cold water. If this doesn’t work then try and have a chat with a friend or play with your pet for a while. When you are able to do this then you will easily be able to sleep better at night and it will make a huge difference to your routine in general.
Put Your Clock Away
If you are one of those people who can’t seem to stop staring at your clock or, if you know that you have a ton of thoughts that race through your mind every single day, then this will really keep you awake. If you want to put an end to this then consider putting your clock in your drawer so you don’t obsess over the time as much. You can even try and cover your clock if you don’t want to do this because obsessing over the time really won’t be doing you any favours and you may even find that it really disrupts your routine.
Try a Leg Pillow
Not being able to get comfortable is one of the main reasons why people can’t sleep at night. If this sounds like you then there could be a reason behind this. For example, if you have a lot of back pain then you may find that this is waking you up and that it is causing you some discomfort as well. if you want to stop this then a pillow between your legs might help and it will even be able to take some of the stress away from your lower body as well. If you sleep on your back then put a pillow underneath your knees. This will help you to ease the pain you are in and it will also make it much easier for you to relax as well.
Seal your Mattress
If you have allergies or if you find that your mattress is constantly making you sniffle and sneeze then this will make it very hard for you to get some shut-eye. You may find that your allergies are caused by things such as mould, droppings from dust mites and various other allergy triggers as well. If you want to get this sorted out then you need to seal your mattress. You can do this by using a dust-cover. This is a great way for you to shut any nasty irritants in, and it could make all the difference to your sleeping routine.
Don’t Work in Bed
Your bedroom should be a place where you go to relax. If you sit in bed and work or if you search the internet then this can keep you awake at night. This is the last thing that you need, so make sure that when you go to bed, that you actually do end up going to bed. This will help you to get into a routine and it will also much easier for you to put an end to your sleeplessness every single day.
If you find that your sleeplessness occurs more on a Monday night then this could be because your weekend has disrupted your routine. If you want to avoid this then try and make sure that you go to sleep and that you wake up at the same time every single day. You also need to put yourself in front of a bright light within 5 minutes of waking up. This could mean opening the curtains or it could include going out for a brisk walk.
Get a New Mattress
Have you ever thought that it is your mattress that is causing you problems? If you want to get around this then it may be time for you to invest in a new one. This shouldn’t cost you much at all if you go to the right places and it should be very easy for you to find one suited to your needs. When you are trying to find one, make sure that it is to your liking in terms of how firm or even how soft it is. You also want to look out for what material the mattress is made out of as well.
Watch for Caffeine
Caffeine for most people is fine in the morning, but as soon as noon comes along you have to make sure that you avoid caffeine as much as possible. Even if you have small amounts through the day, this can really disrupt your routine and it can also make it much harder for you to switch into sleep mode.
