I can’t believe we are into April already! One day it’s Christmas and the next we are fast approaching Easter. Our garden is full of blossom, daffodils, crocuses and even a few tulips. We have sown the bulk of the seeds for the vegetable patch too.
Easter giveaway celebration
Mother’s day came and went. We had a lovely get together with my girls and extended family. The clocks have gone forward and it feels that we are truly into spring, with the promise of summer ahead. It makes me feel happy and optimistic. We are already on the Easter eggs and hot cross buns! The diet can wait. To celebrate leaving the long, dark days of winter behind us, how about an Easter giveaway?

i have recently moved to a house with a large garden, to save money on plants i have asked friends and family for cuttings from their gardens and also swapped cuttings with them, this makes it feel a bit less scroungy! i’m also growing a few plants from seed along with some veg to save even more x

Shop the yellow stickered bargains and plan your meals around them!

Note down every single financial transaction in a jotter or spreadsheet as soon as you have either spent money or received it. Keep every receipt to make this easier. That way, you will always know to the penny exactly how much money you have. It also helps you to see where you are spending money and this can help with cutting back and budgeting. You can keep a record for every bank account you have.

I don’t write down everything but do keep a very close eye to make sure I’m sticking to my budget. Good ideas though
Amanda Ayres says
Do a stock take of your cupboards, larder and freezer before you go shopping and base your weekly meal planner around stuff you already have in.
For example I found a box of pasta sheets at the back of the cupboard so I made a big lasagne that week.
Always meal plan and stick to the list
shoestringjane@outlook.com says
Totally agree with this. Meal planning is a really good way to save money

Set a limited amount of money, you wanna spend

I find online grocery shopping can be great for saving time and petrol, especially when it comes to larger, non-perishable items or those with a longer shelf life. There are some really cheap (or free) delivery slots available. It also stops me from being tempted by the “bargains” as I walk in the store (which I don’t actually need!)
shoestringjane@outlook.com says
True! But sometimes I am still tempted by the online offers…

Take your own lunches to work. I’ve been doing this since January (was one of my new year’s resolutions) and it has saved me a fortune. The prices for just a sandwich are ridiculous!
shoestringjane@outlook.com says
I do this too. Its a no brainer to save money
Ruth says
plan your meals, checking what is in the cupboards/fridge/freezer….THEN go shopping!
Clare Jarvis says
Keep an eye-out for discount vouchers; online, in magazines, newspapers and through work incentive/rewards. Also, if I have any lose change in my pockets at the end of the day I pop it straight in the piggy bank.. it is really building now and the immediate loss of the shrapnel isn’t particularly noticed.

Love your new blog lay out, I have just returned from France and caught up with all your news. I was amazed at the rising cost of food in France since our last visit. I was pleased to get back to local Aldi shopping. It is amazing the amount of food you can buy at a fraction of the cost compared to the big supermarkets, ours has good quality food and lovely fresh produce. It has saved my shopping bill an enormous amount of money over the year. Also using a ‘where is the cheapest petrol’ website another great saving. Keep up you great blogs and good luck with being your own boss, and with the upcoming op.
Sue Cuthbert says
Always look for second hand first. Everything you need is out there.
Mel says
Meal planning has been a real money saver for us, and taking inventory of what we already have in the house before going shopping. Also, making and sticking to a shopping list when picking up groceries.
Biggest saving tip is not taking my partner and kids with me when I shop!
shoestringjane@outlook.com says
Oh yes, I second that! Leave them all at home
Anne says
Set yourself a weekly allowance and put anything leftover each week straight into savings
Mary Heald says
Always write a list and stick to it.
Jo says
Check you bank and credit card balanced regularly (online banking is a gift) and analyse spending month on month to see where you can make savings.
