5 Easy Ways To Make Money From Home (Even If You’re Broke)

6th June 2022 by shoestringjane@outlook.com Leave a Comment

This is a collaborative post.

Working from home can be a blessing and a curse. On the one hand, you don’t have to commute and are free to work any time of day that suits you. But, on the other hand, it’s so much easier to fall into procrastination habits. If you want to thrive in your new work-from-home lifestyle, you need to get organised and get serious about your earnings potential.  Here are five easy ways to make money from home.

Before You Get Started

There are plenty of ways to make money from home. But many of them require a bit of physical labour to get done. That’s why working from home is so attractive. However, before you delve into the world of working from home, there are a few things worth doing to make sure you’re set up for success.

Create A Dedicated Workspace

You can get started working from home really quickly. If you have a laptop and a connection to the internet, you’re good to go. But working from your kitchen table isn’t viable for long periods. Number one, it’ll wreak havoc on your back. And secondly, it isn’t actually conducive to getting work done. You’re in your living space too much. A place you use for relaxation. So it’s not a surprise you’re not getting your best work done from it.

Make a dedicated work area if at all possible. Even if the only place you have is in the living room, section it off with a divider. That way, you’ll be able to concentrate more on work than what’s going on with the family.

Take On Gig Work

If you’re just starting out as a freelancer, focusing on one long-term client can be tempting. While this is a good idea, if you have a steady stream of income coming in from one source, you should diversify your client base as soon as possible. Working with various clients lets you choose the projects you want to work on. This can help with your motivation levels when working on a less exciting project. It also allows you to augment your income and make money from home.

Gig work is a great way to make a bit of extra cash on the side. As long as you can meet the deadlines and requirements of your chosen gig platforms, you can earn a few extra dollars every month. You may not make a lot of cash, but every little bit helps in our current economy.

Negotiate Remote Working Conditions

If you’re working remotely, you may have been given a set of terms and conditions. This is pretty standard. However, you can also use this opportunity to make a few demands of your own. One of the most common demands remote workers make is a set amount of paid vacation time each year.

If your employer is reluctant to give you a set amount of paid vacation, you can ask for a clause in your contract that rewards you when you take time off. One of the ways you can do this is by negotiating a specific remote working rate. Ensuring that you get compensated for taking vacation time, you’ll be more likely to take it. And you’ll need that holiday as a freelancer.

Set Up A Separate Bank Account

As a freelancer, you may consider setting up a business bank account. This account is for your earnings only and is entirely separate from your day-to-day account. Setting up a separate bank account makes it easier to squirrel away your profits. You may also want to make it easier to pay yourself by putting your earnings into this account first. This will incentivise you to prioritise saving over spending.

Being on top of your money situation is essential if you want to thrive when working from home. Unfortunately, a lot of WFH jobs are freelance. And that means you’re probably going to get paid per job or per week. And getting little but often makes it really easy to spend. But, once you set up a way to put the money out of easy access, you’ll get so much more from it.

Network Like Crazy

Many freelancers like to take on long-term projects, but short-term projects are also an excellent way to top up your earnings. You can use social media and online forums to find remote work. Like the remote work you do for clients, short-term work is a great way to earn a few extra dollars every month.

It can also help you to build your reputation as a freelancer. Some short-term projects are paid by the hour, whereas others pay a flat fee to complete a specific task. Short-term projects are a great way to earn a few extra dollars every month.

5 Ways To Work From The Comfort Of Your Own Home, No Matter The Budget

Now you have a grasp on making working from home a success, what are some of the best ways to make money from the comfort of your home?

1# Start Your Own Business

This is one of the most obvious ways to earn more money working from home. If you have a skill or service that you can market to others, you can start a business. You can do this in several ways, including setting up a store on an e-commerce platform. Of course, e-commerce might require a little cash injection upfront, so not entirely great for those who don’t have a penny to their name. But there are businesses you can set up that cost you nothing, like tutoring, blogging, or drop-shipping. If you’re starting your own company, though, set it up properly with Rapid Formations.

2# Take Up Freelance Writing Gigs

Not everyone has the skills or expertise to write a book, but freelance writing is another great way to make money working from home. Depending on your writing type, you can earn between £5 and £100 per article. It’s a wide range of pay depending on how much time you have to commit to the project.

When you’re just starting out as a freelance writer, it’s best to focus on building your profile and getting as much work as possible. This will help you get your name out there and generate steady earnings from home. There are plenty of freelance writing websites that you can use to get your foot in the door. Once you’re listed on these platforms, you can sit back and wait for the work to come to you.

3# Start A Blog

Blogging is another excellent way to earn money working from home. Either start your own blog or contribute to someone else’s. You can write about practically anything, but you should try to find an exciting and popular topic. If you have a specific way of thinking or a particular skill that you can share with others, a blog may be the best way. Even just being a massive nerd on a specific subject gives you a great topic to platform your blog on. And many popular blogs are run on a subscription model. This means that you can charge readers to access your content.

4# Write And Sell eBooks

If you want to write an eBook but don’t know what to write about, you have a few different options. You can write educational content that helps readers learn a new skill or information to make a profit. Another option is to write fiction books or short stories designed to be read in one sitting. The latter option can earn you more per sale than educational content, but you will have fewer readers overall. This means that you will have to sell more books to make up the same money. You can also write and sell non-fiction books. Doing so is a great way to make money from home online.

5# Take Advantage Of Product Testing

Product testing is a type of freelance work that you can do from the comfort of your own home. Some companies will pay you to test their products and give them honest feedback. This earns you money, but it’s also pretty fun. You can find product-testing opportunities in various places online. Start searching for opportunities by going to online job boards and reading through their listings. You can also use websites like Indeed to look for product-testing opportunities.

There are many other ways to make money from home, but these are a few of the most common ways to do so. Follow these tips, and you will have more success in your work-from-home lifestyle. As a result, you’ll soon find that you have more money in your pocket and more time on your hands.
