Don’t buy a bed frame
This idea might sound like something you do when you have no money and can only afford a mattress – but there’s a lot of sense to it. If you buy a foam mattress, then you technically don’t need a bed frame at all. Just make sure the floor is a hard and level surface, and the mattress will keep its shape.
So, this can save a lot of money by avoiding the cost of buying a bed frame – which often comes with delivery and manual labour costs as well. Plus, it’s weirdly cool sleeping on just a mattress!
Upgrade your bed with a mattress topper
Alternatively, if you’re looking to upgrade your bed but don’t want to go through the bother of getting a new mattress, then you can get a mattress topper instead. They’re nowhere near as expensive, and it can squeeze out a good few years onto an ageing mattress.
Say goodbye to traditional wardrobes
It’s amazing how expensive wardrobes are, particularly when you think about what they do. Their only purpose is to stand there and hold your clothes, so why are they worth hundreds of pounds?!
Not to worry, you can save a lot of money by steering clear from all the traditional wardrobes. Instead of a big oak wardrobe or a fancy one with sliding doors, get a cheaper version. There are some wardrobes on offer that are basically a collection of portable storage squares that you can attach to one another. They’re so cheap, and you can essentially keep adding squares to the collection to expand your wardrobe! The only downside is that you have to fold your clothes instead of hanging them up, but it’s a small price to pay for the financial savings!
Paint the walls
Instead of going out and buying some new wallpaper, just paint the walls instead. Paint ends up being far more cost effective as you can keep it for other occasions. With wallpaper, you buy a load of it and usually end up with some spare. So, that wastes money! Then, if the wallpaper rips, it’s harder to deal with than if paint chips. Chipped paint can be gone over with the leftover paint that you bought. By doing it all yourself, you save a fortune by not needing a professional painter to come in and take care of things.
