14th August 2019 by shoestringjane@outlook.com Leave a Comment

Heading for a road trip through Europe is one of those things which is on almost everyone’s bucket list. It can be a great way to have a cheap holiday and be able to explore a whole lot of countries in a short space of time. Today we are going to take a look at what you need to bring with you when you head off for a road trip around Europe this summer.

The car

When it comes to going for a long trip abroad, it is very important to consider the fact that you will be on the road for a long time and on varying terrain. Because of this, it is important for you to consider the car you choose to bring with you and this might not be to car you currently own. When it comes to it, the car you choose is important because you will be spending a lot of time in this vehicle during your trip. Take a look at sites like Car Synergy to gain some insight into the best cars to take on your trip.

The document checklist

There are a lot of important documents you will have to bring with you when you head out for a road trip in Europe because you will often end up needing documents when you reach the borders of each country you decide to visit.

  • Driving licence
  • National insurance number
  • Proof of vehicle insurance
  • Proof of ID
  • Green Card
  • Travel insurance documents
  • European Breakdown Cover policy number and documents

The equipment

As well as the documents you need for the trip away, there are also some pieces of equipment and helpful items which you should always bring along with you on the trip. There are different rules for every single country you visit so it is always worth taking some time before you leave to go through regulations and see what you need to bring along for the ride. Here are all of the things you will want to bring along with you for the safety of you and other road users:

  • Hi-Vis jackets
  • Warning triangle
  • Headlight beam deflectors (different countries have different rules)
  • Breathalyser (if you are going to France)
  • Country identifier car sticker
  • First aid kit

Extra items

As well as all of the essential items you should take with you if you plan to drive through Europe, there are some additional items you can choose to bring along with you which will either make the trip easier for you or provide you with help if you are caught in a situation such as breaking down or getting lost.

  • Light bulbs
  • A torch
  • A spare fuel can
  • Oil and water for the engine
  • A paper map
  • Sat-nav
  • Blanket
  • Sun cream
  • Snacks
  • Water
  • Games (for kids)
  • Phone power bar

Once you have packed all of these items along with the essential items for your trip, you will be able to head off on your road trip with your family with the peace of mind that you have everything you could ever need!
