Springtime gives frugal energy vibes!

Got my DIY outfit on!

I always say that I enjoy autumn and the transition to the shorter days and colder temperatures of winter. Usually I am ready for cosying up under throws, staying home more and eating lots of soups and stews. I actually enjoy the change of one season to another. Spring, however, gives me energy. It’s definitely a time of renewal and I find I am inspired to get on with the jobs I have happily ignored through winter. The warmth and sunshine of the last couple of weeks (even if the lovely weather hasn’t been consistent) have definitely given me frugal energy.

In my last post I told you how we were getting back to the garden. We put the greenhouse up and started planning the veggie patch. I have continued to sow seeds and we both got out to do some weeding and tidy things up at the weekend. Now I have moved indoors.

Getting on with the DIY

In between, though, I decided to finally get the decorating in the lounge finished. Most people don’t paint half a room then abandon it for a year, but I confess we did! We painted two walls a beautiful dark green with the intention of painting the other two cream. Then I got sidetracked with the spare bedroom and the bathroom, and never completed it.

So! It was time. My daughter gave me some leftover paint called ‘hessian’, and I did the walls with that and the paintwork white. I really love the neutral hessian colour. It’s so tranquil.

My other plan was to paint the old corner cabinet that the TV lives on and up-cycle the old nest of tables we picked up in a charity shop about three years ago. I used the same dark green on them all – one small can of Frenchic ‘Steaming Green’ went a long way. I still have almost half a can left.

Then I used a roll of vinyl on the tops of the tables and I’m really pleased with the transformation.

I love up-cycling old furniture to give it a new lease of life rather than spending money buying something new. It gives me a lot of satisfaction.

The spring cleaning has started early

I have also been inspired to use my frugal energy to clear out the kitchen cupboards, do a stock take and give everything a good clean. I do this periodically so that I don’t forget what food we have in our stores and I can pull older stuff to the front. Then I can create my meal plan and make sure we use things that need eating first.

So, I have been putting my burst of springtime frugal energy to good use! What do you think of my DIY efforts? Have you been spring cleaning?

For more frugal inspiration you can catch me on YouTube with a new video each Sunday evening. You might also like my book – Extreme Frugality: Save Money Like Your Grandma ( only available via Amazon at the moment, but I am working on that).

Thanks for reading, back soon!
