But his puppy phase won’t last long and he is growing so fast, so we are enjoying it. Next year, he will be calmer and hopefully less likely to wreak so much havoc in the garden…
26% off flowers
We are really lucky to have a good post office a ten minute walk up the road. As both myself and Mr S run online businesses, we rely on the Royal Mail. Other delivery companies may be available, but in my view Royal Mail are still the best and most reliable.
The couple that run the post office work really hard and they are always busy. However, during the pandemic their workload has gone up even more. There is always a long queue outside. Despite this, they couldn’t be more helpful and often go above and beyond what they need to for their customers.
We wanted to get them a gift to show our appreciation and decided on flowers. There are usually several florists on Top Cashback, so we purchased a nice bunch with Teleflorist. They are currently giving the best cash back – 26.4%! I thought this was really generous. We paid £25 for a nice bouquet plus a delivery charge, but will get £6.60 back.
If you want to explore the deals on Top Cashback you can earn a £5 bonus if you sign up using my referral code*. Be quick, though, as this offer ends on the 1st June.
Cheap pot plants
We haven’t had our usual opportunities to peruse garden centres and other places for little plants for our patio pots. They are all looking a bit sad or empty!
When I was in Morrison’s the other week I spotted two trays of geraniums for £3, which is a really good price. I grabbed two, but now wish I had bought more!
This week, I finally got round to putting some in larger pots, so they should help make a nice display later in the summer. That’s if I can stop Archie digging them up, of course….
Sowing the seeds
Because I couldn’t easily get hold of plants from anywhere else, I dug out some old flower seeds and planted them in trays. Some of the seed was several years old so I wasn’t’ sure what would germinate.
Some nasturtiums are coming through, a couple of morning glories and loads of Livingstone daisies. I have thinned out the latter and they are doing really well, so they should fill a few gaps.
Veg patch update
The seeds I planted a couple of weeks ago have been slow to germinate. I think we should have watered them more, as it’s been so dry. There are broad beans showing their heads and some peas, but the carrots are few and far between. I am watering every day now, but it may be too late!
The tomatoes are yet to be planted in the greenhouse and are still in their pots. They look lovely, green and healthy, but really need to go in, so this is an urgent job for this week.
The courgettes look great. I thought they seemed puny to start with but they are healthy and growing fast. Similarly, the runner beans are growing really well, I am looking forward to those!
My cucumbers failed to germinate at all. Never mind, we don’t eat many anyway. All the brassicas are on the patch apart from the chard. This is another urgent job for this week.
More decluttering efforts
I decided to sort out the cluttered drawers in the bedroom this week. It seems that no matter how often I fold things and place them neatly, everything ends up in a muddle really quickly.
I decided to go for a Marie Kondo type arrangement, folding and rolling all my T-shirts and standing them up. It certainly took up a lot less space in the drawer, although I did throw some things out as well. I wonder if this will last longer than my usual efforts?
Another advantage to this method is that I can see everything at a glance so won’t just wear the same things that happen to be at the top!
How has your week been? Have you spent any time in the garden?
I’m linking up with this Cass, Emma and Becky in this week’s ‘Frugal Friday’ linky.

My seeds were growing really slowly in their plugs, so in the end I just bunged them into the planter they were destined for anyway, and hoped the slugs didn’t destroy them, but instead they’ve started growing like weeds!!
The Aquilegia’s are still only just poking their heads out of the seed tray after about 6 weeks though!

A good solution to get Archie to stop digging in your garden is to get a child’s plastic pool and fill it with sand or dirt and let him go crazy. If you catch him digging where he is not supposed to, tell him “NO” and move him to his little digging area. I have a boxer mix and they are famous for digging and I tried this and it worked like a charm. Now every spring she can hardly wait for me to get her “sandbox” out.
