How To Save Money In Your Garden In 2021

This is a collaborative post.

Gardening can be a wonderful hobby, and not only does it improve the way your garden looks, it can add serious value to your property, as well as making it a nice space to relax with family and friends. However, it can be an expensive hobby through the purchase of materials, tools, and also your time – but it doesn’t have to be! These days, everyone is trying to find new ways to save a pretty penny or two, and you can do exactly that, whilst still having a beautiful garden to enjoy when the warmer months roll around. Here are some tips on how to save money in your garden in 2021.

Think about the seasons

Some flowers, shrubs and hedges only last for a few seasons of each year, meaning not only do you have to go through the effort of pulling them out, but you have to fork out for new ones next year. If this is mounting up to a cost you can’t keep up, try opting for evergreen plants, shrubs and hedges to keep your garden from costing you the earth. Not only that, but your garden will look beautiful all year long rather than bare once the colder months return.

Insure your tools

There are plenty of tools you need for gardening, from garden shears to drills and hoes to keep things neat and tidy. Over time, these tools can wear down and break, or need some costly repairs, especially if you’re storing them in your outdoor shed!

The cold weather and damp atmosphere can damage your tools. Try covering them with a plastic sheet to protect them during the damper months. You may also consider insurance for your tools from companies like https://www.rhinotradeinsurance.com/insurance-products/tool-insurance/ – especially if you’re using your work tools! So if your tools are damaged beyond repair, you have a safety net.

Build things yourself

There are many pieces of furniture you can have in your garden, and many DIY stores may offer to assemble them for you at a cost. To save money, why not build them yourself? For example, designing and building your own pergola will not only save you money on assembly, but also the cost of the furniture too! All you’ll need is some timber, screws, a drill, and some patience!

Upcycle old garden furniture

Through use, time and weather, your garden furniture may begin to look old and worn, especially if it’s made from metal or wood. Rather than throwing a perfectly functional piece of furniture away, why not upcycle it? A lick of paint and a few supportive beams for slightly broken pieces will give your furniture a new lease of life, not to mention save you spending hundreds on a new set.

Install water butts

Finally, installing water butts around your garden to collect rainwater will not only save you money using your hose, but it’s more environmentally friendly too! Save money with a small investment in water butts for your garden!
