This is a collaborative post.
When you work from home or you have projects that you like to work on in your own time, having a home office is always a good idea. Yet, you may not want to grab a desk and tuck it in the corner of your living room. Instead, you may want to create the home office of your dreams that inspires you, complete with a comfortable working area. In this blog post, we’re going to show you how to create that.
1. Choose the Right Space
First of all, you need to begin by choosing where your dream home office will go. If you have a designated study space in your home, this will be perfect. If not, you could choose a spare room, or even look at converting your garage, basement, or loft space. Here, it’s all about working with a space that allows you to create the office you really want. This can often mean ripping the room out and prepping it for decorating.
2. Decorate the Room
When the space is ready to go, your next job is to decorate. Here, you’re going to want to play around with choosing the right paint colors or wallpaper and get to work. You’ll also want to visit a local discount carpet and flooring shop to pick out the right flooring for the room too. Then, you can make sure that the shell of the room is decorated and looking great before you bring in your key pieces of furniture.
3. Focus on Office Equipment
At this point, you can then look at bringing your workspace alive with furniture and equipment. You’ll need a good desk to work on and a comfortable chair that supports your posture. You’ll also need your computer too. If you have a lot of paperwork or you want to display things like books, think about bringing in drawers or cabinets and a bookshelf. At this point, the room will really start to take shape.
4. Accessorize the Space
The next thing you need to do is make sure that you have all the accessories and equipment you need in place. It’s easy to focus on getting the decor finished and bringing in your key workspace elements, but don’t forget about the rest. You might need handy desk accessories, computer extras like a printer, and you might also want to focus on finishing the room of itself with things like personal photographs for your desks or by hanging inspiring wall art.
5. Set Yourself Up for Success
Finally, you then want to make sure that you’re able to set yourself up for success in the space. Ideally, your home office environment needs to make you feel productive. You will want your home office to facilitate the work you need to do. This can mean removing any distractions, along with bringing anything in that will make you feel comfortable and able to work well. It might be a coffee machine or comfortable cushions. Either way, you want to make sure that you set off the space in a way that will enable you to love working in your office and doing a great job!
