This is a collaborative post.

If you want to make your home more eco-friendly then you have come to the right place. This guide will show you what changes you can make to your home, so you can rest assured knowing that it is energy-efficient, and that it is not making you too warm in summer.

Consider Getting a Smart-Meter

One of the first things that you need to do is consider getting a smart meter. This is a good way for you to get a real-time view of how much gas or electricity you might be using. You can then use this as a benchmark to figure out all the ways that you can save. At the end of the day, you may find that by adopting a smart meter, you can access a broader range of tariffs, which could help you to save even more money.

Look at Insulation

Even something as simple as adding a draft excluder around some of your ill-fitting doors can make a huge difference around the home. If you haven’t looked into this before then you may find that you are seriously missing out. You don’t need to overhaul your house with new insulation to try and take advantage of the heat benefits as there are so many other options you can look into. A lot of them you can do yourself too, so you don’t have to worry about hiring a professional to take care of it all for you.

Get your Boiler Serviced

Another thing you can do is try and get your boiler serviced on a regular basis. If you take the time to service your boiler then this will make sure that it operates safely and that it is also as efficient as it can be. While you’re at it, it is also a good idea for you to try and look at your air conditioning unit. With summer being around the corner, it’s a good idea for you to make sure that yours is running the best it can. It may even be that you invest in a new split system air conditioner unit as this is a good way for you to ensure your unit is energy efficient.  These  units are far more energy-efficient than the ones you might put on your windows, so be sure to keep that in mind as they can make a big difference to your energy bills.

Don’t Leave Appliances on Standby

Another thing you need to do is make sure that you don’t leave your appliances on standby. If you do then you may find that you end up wasting more money than you think possible, as some appliances are energy vampires and this can make it very difficult for you to get the result you need. If you forget to turn things off then one thing you can do is invest in a plug that you can control by your phone. When you do, you will notice a huge difference in your energy bills and this can be huge if you’d like to lower them.
