It’s been such a non- stop busy week! One of those when I find myself running to keep up. I struggled to think of five frugal things I have done this week, but when I really consider it I know some of my frugal habits are so entrenched I do them as a matter of course. So what frugal things did I manage?
A bargain book
I drove my youngest daughter from Essex to see her new flat in Brighton this week. It’s a lovely place to live, near the city centre and close to many of her friends.
Of course, whilst we were there we had to have a quick look in a couple of charity shops. I didn’t find much as they seemed generally quite expensive, but I did immediately spot a book I had wanted for a while. Anyone tried the Tin Can Cook*?
One of my favourite cookbooks is Jack’s first book, A Girl Called Jack*, although some of the recipes in this one look a little odd. I’m going to try a few, though! If there are any you would recommend, please let me know in the comments!

Taking coffee & snacks
We got ourselves organised for the journey to Brighton, taking coffee, drinks and snacks with us. This meant we didn’t need to stop and spend anything at one of the expensive service stations.
Having been stuck last year the wrong side of the Dartford bridge when Stop Oil protestors glued themselves to it, I always take refreshments on a long journey. They kept me going during my three-hour wait and I was extremely grateful!
Sorting the harvest
I haven’t had much time to work in the garden this week. However, I did want to sort the tomatoes. There are loads of green ones, but they have been taking their time to ripen.
I have been stripping off some of the foliage so the sun can get to the fruits, as well as picking any that have started to change colour to ripen them on the windowsill. I find this works well.
There are loads of courgettes coming through still. There has been no time to do much with them, although I did manage to chop some up and freeze them.
Online listing
I have been accumulating a lot of potential stock on my travels of late (you may have seen my vintage haul on last week’s YouTube video), so I spent a couple of days photographing, listing and putting stuff away.
It’s definitely the case with eBay that the more you list, the more you sell. eBay seems to reward active sellers by making sure people see your listings. As a result, I have also been packing up things I have sold and posting them out.
Waxing my own eyebrows
I recently paid to get my eyebrows waxed and tinted. It’s so nice to get it done professionally, but I can’t afford to pay every month. So I bought some wax strips to keep them looking good and plan to go every other month.
Actually, the lady I found seems to be very good value. I think she keeps her costs lower than big salons on the town centre because she uses a small studio in her garden.
These are the wax strips* I bought, which were £5.98. Hopefully they will last quite a few months.
I hope you had a good week! How did yours go?
