It seems like almost everyone is travelling to one destination or another without acknowledging how expensive it can be. This year alone, nearly 78% of Brits are looking to travel!
You might feel like you’re missing out on a lot of fun and adventure because your budget might not allow you to do so. However, you can take a trip without worrying about how much you are spending if you follow these budget-friendly planning tips. Not only will you come back home refreshed, but you won’t have to spend your entire trip worrying about your expenses.
Travel during the off-season
If you are one of the lucky few with flexible schedules, you can save a lot of your money by travelling during non-peak periods. An added benefit is that you wouldn’t have to navigate through crowds and will likely have a more relaxed experience. Although tourist seasons vary in different locations, most peak seasons are during major holidays or summer months.
Ideally, the best time to travel should be earlier in the year or during autumn. You should also purchase tickets or book your lodging as early as possible. This is because the closer it gets to your travel date, the more expensive it will be. You should avoid travelling during Christmas as prices of travel increase dramatically during that period.
Seek out alternative accommodation
You can save a lot of money simply by being strategic with where you plan on staying during your holiday. Hotels seem like the preferred option, but you can easily rack up bills, especially if you are away for a long time.
Instead, look into more budget-friendly alternatives. Hostels and vacation rentals are normally the best affordable options if you travel internationally. Or you can arrange to live with friends or family. Inns are a much more affordable choice if you’re planning a holiday right at home. For example, the inns in Northumberland offer guests unique experiences and services.
Keep your trips shorter
Whether you’re going on a trip to explore a new area or relax, you don’t need all the time off in the world to do it. Shorter travels are a much more appealing option and can offer the same benefits as longer holidays at a cheaper rate. You can still learn about a new place or try different experiences on a shorter trip, even if it is right at home. You can visit a new city, town, museum, or local theme park. Or you can take a quick train out of your country and visit a great destination within hours. You can save more on a shorter trip and even be able to afford multiple short trips in a year.
If you love to travel but feel constricted by your budget or finances, you must adjust your priorities to find more room for your travels. Travelling doesn’t always involve paying for expensive lodgings or flying first class. You can still enjoy your holidays on a budget.
