The Easiest Way To Renovate Your Living Room Without Breaking The Bank

Just because you are on a tight budget doesn’t mean you can’t give your living room a makeover, especially if the magnolia walls have seen better days, your drapery hasn’t been changed for a decade, and your furniture is chipped, scuffed and marked. You don’t need to have deep pockets to give the heart of your home a facelift. Your living room should be a sanctuary within your humble abode, a place where you can relax and unwind in the evenings. Renovating a part of your home should be exciting without becoming excessively expensive. Take a look at these simple ways you can renovate your living room without breaking the bank.

Flooring

Old carpet, stained fabrics, and scratched laminate can make any room look tired and old. While you may think that a luxury new shag pile or oak stained wooden flooring might cost a small fortune, you might be wrong. By heading to carpet showrooms and DIY stores, you may be able to locate ex-display laminate, seconds or carpet off-cuts. If you can locate the size needed for the square footage of your living room, and you aren’t too fussy about style or colour, you could end up with the flooring of a show home at a fraction of the cost.

Furniture

When it comes to your sofa, coffee table, TV cabinet and chairs, you can be at a loss as to whether to go for a matching style or mix it up with an eclectic range of furniture. However, you decide to dress your living room, make sure you love it. Don’t follow trends just because they are in fashion. This is your space, and you have to enjoy living in it so find pieces that you adore. If you fancy a classic look, opt for a brand like Old Charm Furniture to replicate the walnut bureaus and coffee tables of a century ago. If you fancy something a little more modern, take a look at the modular furniture available to create a more chic and minimalist finish.

When you consider your larger pieces such as your sofa and armchairs, keep an eye out for sales or hot foot it to vintage shops to explore their furniture range. You might be able to pick up a 1960s leather suite, a retro Scandinavian coffee table or a wingback armchair for much less than a new one and you will also be giving an older piece a new lease of life.

Walls

If you would like to utilize wallpaper in your room but can’t afford a dozen rolls or more, think about creating a statement wall instead. This can bring a central focus to your room and can be more impactful than if you covered every wall in your room. For small rooms, go for lighter, brighter patterns rather than darker hues. For rooms with lower ceilings, opt for wallpaper with vertical stripes to create the illusion of height. As you are only covering a fraction of your wall space, you may be able to stretch your budget a little further and choose a designer geometric or floral flock pattern.

If you fancy renovating a little part of your home, but don’t feel like you have the budget to match, follow this advice to give your living room a fresh new look.
